Spanning over 1,100 acres, Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park offers a serene retreat into Missouri's natural landscapes. History

Established in 1932 through a generous land donation by Annie Vanmeter, this park preserves the heritage of the Missouria tribe, the state's namesake. The area was once home to a significant Missouria Indian village, notably marked on a 1673 map by explorers Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet. Within the park's boundaries lie the 'Old Fort,' a hand-dug earthwork, and several ancient burial mounds, offering a tangible connection to the region's indigenous past. The Civilian Conservation Corps contributed to the park's development in the 1930s, constructing structures that still stand today. Over time, the park has evolved into a sanctuary that honors both natural beauty and cultural history.
