History

Established in 1847 by John Adam Beckley, the Beckley Furnace was a cornerstone of Connecticut's iron industry, producing high-quality pig iron primarily for railroad car wheels. Operating until 1919, it stands as a testament to the region's industrial heritage. In 1946, the state purchased the site, designating it as Connecticut's sole official state Industrial Monument. The furnace was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
