Discover the rich natural and historical landscape of West Georgia at F.D. Roosevelt State Park. This remarkable destination offers visitors a chance to explore pristine wilderness, walk historic trails, and connect with the environmental and cultural heritage of the region.
Nestled in the Pine Mountain range, this state park offers a diverse landscape of hardwood forests, scenic trails, and rugged terrain. The park provides visitors with an immersive natural experience, featuring challenging hiking trails, historic structures, and a glimpse into the ecological diversity of West Georgia's mountain region.
Established in 1935 as part of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) program during the Great Depression, F.D. Roosevelt State Park holds a unique place in American conservation history. The park was named after President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who frequently visited the nearby warm springs for polio treatment. The CCC workers, many of them local young men, constructed much of the park's original infrastructure, including trails, bridges, and buildings, using local stone and timber.
