Background

Nestled in the heart of the Cross Florida Greenway, the Landbridge Trailhead offers a gateway to adventure for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. With its seamless blend of natural beauty and thoughtful design, this trailhead invites visitors to explore miles of scenic paths while providing a unique perspective on conservation and recreation.

History

The Landbridge Trailhead is a testament to innovative land use and environmental stewardship. Originally part of the Cross Florida Barge Canal project—a mid-20th-century effort to create a waterway connecting the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic—the land was repurposed after the project was halted to preserve its ecological and recreational potential. The land bridge itself, completed in 2001, stands as a pioneering structure in wildlife conservation, allowing safe passage across I-75 for Florida’s diverse species. Today, the trailhead serves as a hub for connecting communities with nature while honoring the region’s environmental legacy.
