History

Florence Marina State Park was established in 1975 as part of Georgia's efforts to create recreational spaces around Walter F. George Lake (also known as Lake Eufaula). The park is situated on the Georgia-Alabama border and represents an important conservation and recreational area in Southwest Georgia. Its creation was closely tied to the development of the Walter F. George Lock and Dam, which transformed the Chattahoochee River ecosystem and created significant recreational opportunities.
